Our Story

At Spanish Flowers Mexican Restaurant, the story began in 1979 with a dream and a passion for authentic Mexican cooking. Founded by Mary L. Bernal — a Houston native inspired by summers in Guadalajara — the first kitchen served traditional home-style meals and slowly became a landmark rooted in family and heart.

In 2009 the Hernandez family joined Mrs. Bernal to carry that dream forward. Many of the staff have been here for decades. Guests are familiar faces. The City of Houston officially honored Spanish Flowers with its own day — a reflection of the loyalty this community has shown.

We’re known for menudo and tamales, for sizzling fajitas and cheesy enchiladas, for margaritas and agua fresca. Some kitchens stay open late — even 24 hours on weekends at Main St — so first responders, night-shift workers, and late diners still have a table.
